Queens are the strictly female sub-sex of Esprit, their lifespans are the longest amongst the species. They are normally the average size of Esprits, but it is not uncommon for them to be slightly larger. It is not unheard of for a Queen to be born without horns - this is a trait that is unique to to Queens. Queens are Esprits with higher concentrations of estrogen. Their “bell bodies” are usually wider to give them a pear shape, and their limbs longer and more slender. They are more fertile than the norm, the oblong bodies hosting three sets of nipples for caring for more fawnlings. Their bodies are built for producing offspring, capable of holding up to six or more fawnlings at a time, however, their offspring tend to be smaller children than those born from Graces. Their excess fur and fat assists in incubation which lasts from nine to twelve months.
Considered to be the most elusive and rare, their temperament does alter when they come in heat or are pregnant and they are more defensive; more likely to attack. Once the fawnlings are born, a Queen is likely to flee the nest at a sign of threat, much like a Grace. While communal and nurturing, they are not inclined against self-preservation. Queen Esprit do produce milk that can be fed to any Esprit young, it also has hallucinogenic properties when consumed by humans, quelling anxiety and promoting a ‘daydreamer’ effect.
Kings
Juvenile to adult Kings tend to roam solo and Elder Kings are sometimes found assuming roles of guardians to Esprit courts. Their lifespans, by comparison, are the shortest of the Esprit species.
They are a strictly male sub-sex and are known to mark their territory via ‘element scarring’; such as leaving distinct marks on trees, rocks, and other objects found in their territory. The largest and most intimidating of the sub-sexes, King Esprits are not as timid as the others. While not directly aggressive, they can display and act on it when provoked. When a King impregnates another Esprit they regard them and the offspring as a part of their territory, the King will become protective of their mate and offspring and their aggression will increase. It is possible for a Grace to become a Queen after a very long mate-ship with a king, although it is an extremely rare occurrence.
Always born with more than three eyes, the locations can vary to any spot on the body. The extra eyes of Kings make them much more susceptible to Possession as they have more “windows” to the Astral Planes. This natural-born mutation is also a reason for why many Kings have more psychic abilities over various natural elements.
